SUMMARY:Dogging
DESCRIPTION:The Dogging ticket (CPCCLDG3001) trains you to direct crane operators when the load moves out of their line of sight\, select the right lifting gear for the job\, and apply proper slinging techniques to keep loads - and everyone around them - stable and safe.\n\nIntroduction:\n\n\nRTEO's Dogging course runs over three days and blends theory with hands-on yard practice using real cranes\, real loads\, and real gear. You'll spend the bulk of your time on the tools rather than in the classroom\, which is how slinging and signalling actually sticks. Class sizes are capped at 8 to make sure everyone gets adequate crane time. \n\n\n\n\n\nWhat to wear and bring on the day: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n	\n \n Item\n Status\n \n	\n	\n \n Government-issued photo ID (driver's licence or passport)\n Required\n \n \n Hi-vis shirt — sleeves must cover shoulders\n Required\n \n \n Full-length work trousers (no tracksuit pants\, shorts\, or activewear)\n Required\n \n \n Lace-up steel-cap work boots\n Required\n \n \n Hard hat\n Required\n \n \n Rigger-style gloves\n Required\n \n \n Safety glasses or clear-lens sunnies\n Bring if you have them\n \n \n Sunscreen and a water bottle\n Strongly recommended\n \n	\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBetween October and March the yard gets hot — bring extra water. Between June and August\, pack a waterproof jacket and a jumper\, as a good portion of each day is spent outdoors regardless of weather. \n\n\n\n\n\nPlease note: learners who turn up without the required PPE will be sent home and charged a rebooking fee. We can't make exceptions on this — it's a WHS requirement for yard access. \n\n\n \n\n\nTarget Audience:\nThis course is designed for construction workers\, riggers-in-training\, crane crew\, and site personnel who need a Dogging High Risk Work Licence to direct lifts on commercial\, civil\, or industrial projects. It's best suited to learners who already have some exposure to a construction or industrial environment\, as the pace assumes comfort around heavy plant and yard operations. Career changers and new entrants are welcome\, but should expect a steep learning curve and may benefit from shadowing experienced doggers before enrolling. \n\n\n\nLearning Outcomes:\nInterpret lift plans\, load charts\, and Safe Work Method StatementsCalculate load weights and identify the centre of gravity for irregular loadsSelect\, inspect\, and reject lifting gear including slings\, shackles\, chains\, and hooksApply correct slinging techniques for a range of load types and orientationsDirect crane operators using standard whistle\, voice\, and hand signalsCommunicate effectively via two-way radio when loads are out of sightIdentify and respond to hazards during lifting operationsComplete pre-lift checks and post-lift equipment inspections \n\n\nLearning Methods:\n\n	Face-to-face classroom theory delivered by licensed dogging trainers\n	Hands-on practical sessions in RTEO's on-site training yard using real cranes and loads\n	One-on-one trainer feedback during slinging and signalling drills\n	Group exercises for radio communication and team-based lifts\n	Open-book written assessment with verbal support available if needed\n	Practical assessment observed by a qualified assessor on day 3\n\n \n\n\nProgram Benefits:\nNationally recognised Statement of Attainment on successful completionPathway to applying for your High Risk Work Licence (DG class) through your state regulatorSmall class sizes capped at 8 learners for maximum crane timeDelivered by trainers with 15 years of on-site rigging and dogging experienceLifetime access to our slinging reference guide and load chart library via the learner portalFree refresher session within 12 months if you want to brush up before your licence assessment \n\n\nContent:\nUnit of competency: CPCCLDG3001 — Licence to perform doggingDay 1: Legislation\, load estimation\, gear identification and inspectionDay 2: Slinging techniques\, signalling practice\, radio communication drillsDay 3: Practical assessments and written knowledge testAssessment methods: written questions\, practical demonstrations\, and verbal questioningDuration: 3 consecutive days\, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm daily \n\n \nUpcoming Workshops\n\n\nName\nDate\nTime\nLocation\nAvailable Spaces\nCost\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDogging\n3 - 5 August 2026\n07:30 am - 04:00 pm\n1 City Road\, Southbank VIC 3006\n100\n$1\,350.00\nEnrol
